A frequently-asked query:

I have a website and my own cpanel. The problem is my friend wants me to host her website but I don’t really know how it works. She bought a domain name from godaddy.com . I tried the add on domain feature but it showed up this error:

Error from park wrapper: Using nameservers with the following IPs: 216.69.185.20,208.109.255.20 Sorry, the domain is already pointed to an IP address that does not appear to use DNS servers associated with this server. Please transfer the domain to this servers nameservers or have your administrator add one of its nameservers to /etc/ips.remotedns and make the proper A entries on that remote nameserver.

How can I solve the situation?

Answer:This is not a problem when your hosting plan supports unlimited domain hosting. Just add the domain using the
“Add On Domain” icon on your cpanel. But first, let’s customize your domain. Login to your domain registrar account. Find the ‘Domain Manager’ link. A list of of website will be displayed. Click the domain you wanted to customize. Edit it’s nameservers details by clicking the nameservers icon. Change nameserver 1 and nameserver 2 value and replace it with your web host nameservers details. Usually nameservers look like this:
ns1.hostingcompany.com
ns2.hostingcompany.com

Beware of other cheap web hosts. Companies like Godaddy does not have cPanel as their control panel. cPanel is the leader in web hosting control panels. Everything is neatly organized in logical categories and it’s got a great software installer called Fantastico, so you can easily install WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, shopping carts, bulletin boards, and much more. cPanel removes the complexity of web hosting. We highly recommend you do not consider a web hosting without it.

Just in case GoDaddy allows two domain names on same server, you need to contact Support and see how to set up the nameservers.

    Under cPanel’s Addon domain function:

click on the addon domains button and put in your domain name. A folder is made in the public_html directory. So if you have mydomain.com, the files for that domain would live in a folder called mydomain.com.

Make a backup of your site just in case and ask Support to set up your friend’s domain name.

You have to configure your friend’s domain to your host’s dns server.

Search for your webhost’s DNS addresses and tell your friend to change the DNS records in her domain.

Then you can use addon domain.

    first get your ip address

then tell your friend to login to her godaddy account and click on Advanced Details beside her domain name
from there, she should check if Total DNS is available and if it is, she should click on Total DNS Control

She should then edit the first A (Host) record
    changing
    Host @
from her ip address to your ip address under the Points to field and save it
you can then add her http record and subdirectory on your host
a few hours later, her domain should be pointing to your website

alternatively, you can also give her your 2 dns servers
she can then change her dns servers in the NS (Name Servers) section of Total DNS Control
this can get tricky though because you will have to copy a lot of her default settings or she won’t be able to get her mail from godaddy.
and if you want to host her mail as well, that’s another story ;)

Your friend needs to login to her godaddy account and change the domain name servers (DNS) to yours this is done by going to domain management ticking the box by the domain name then clicking change DNS then entering yours and clicking OK

If you don’t know your DNS then you can look it up at http://whois.domaintools.com/
Type in your domain name and at the bottom of the page you will see Domain servers in listed order:

It can take 24 hours to propagate (this means that nothing could show when you type in the web address for 24 hours)
