A frequently-asked query:

ok so i am using 0fees.net for a while now but they disappointed me with php (as i am starting to learn it) because mail script won’t work at all…
anyway,i am looking for a new web host, even better than 0fees.
i need it to be equal or better than these conditions:

* FREE (absolutely necessary…may accept somethings like posting on their forum a required number of times monthly or stuff like that…:))
* NO ADS (again,necessary,i mean websites look totally shit with preset ads)
* they let me put my own ads on my website
*disk space: more than 250mb (that’s what i had on 0fees)
*bandwidth:monthly…like let’s say more than 1gb
*up time:as much as possible…
*php: very important! everything enabled!!!version…latest would be better,like 5.xxxx
*mysql databases: more than 5, plus phpmyadmin
*file manager
*a cpanel would be nice
*upload method:mainly ftp,the more methods,the better
*e-mail addresses:i would use just a few but would like that type of address that any email address that finishes with your site address to be ok and received…(example: office@mysite.host.com and mail@mysite.host.com and mail_me@mysite.host.com would all receive emails in the same mail box,together and the email addresses wouldn’t need to be set,like you can send an email to an address like shitshitshit@mysite.host.com even if i have never used or enabled that email address name and the email would arrive in the same mailbox)… i know…too long story…:|
*addon domains:again,i would use just a few but the more the better
*parked domains:the same as above
*supported file formats:as many as possible: surely to use: htm,css,php and image formats
*would be better if they offer a fantastico type installer
*i can’t think of anything else right now…

so that would be it
the more they offer,the better!
i promise to vote as best answer the best hosting that offers the most of those conditions!!!
thanks to all in advance!!!
:)

A cpanel website hosting question:

I have a website that was created for me. It is running on my host (CPanel) fine. It is a CMS (not sure which one, not wordpress or modx, or Drupal even. Not sure how to tell.

Tonight I just installed WordPress on my local machine YEAH. Wanting to learn how to do it and practice on it.

I have Windows 7. XAMPP installed with Apache, Mysql, PHP. I went into PHPmyadmin to setup my wordpress database for that project.

What I want to do now is to copy my site over to my machine.

This would involve the files which I FTP’d as a backup already on my machine. Then the database.
THEN, to put everything in the right place.

I did do a virtualhost entry and can type /mysite/ and get the index.php (although it doesn’t work since no database.

I opened the connect_db.php file to see what it says.

<?php
/*
$server= "localhost";
$db= "my_db";
$user= "root";

$pwd= "";

*/
This one is for the CMS, The second for the wordpress
/*

$server= "localhost";
$db= "sohomweb_mydb";
$user= "sohomweb_myuser";
$pwd= "password";

*/

$server= "localhost";
$db= "mysite_blog_and_cms";
$user= "mysite_blogcms";
$pwd= "password";

$connect=mysql_connect($server,$user,$pwd) or die("Could not Connect To Server 123");

So there is a database for the WordPress and one for the CMS. They are combined in one list when I open PHPmyadmin.

So……………Is there somewhere with a great tutorial on how to do this? I just watched one today for the installation of WordPress locally, it was perfect and easy to understand.

A cpanel website hosting question:

I found this web hosting script called the hosting tool, and I have no idea on how to use it. I thought this was a script where an user is able to select a package, and then use a control panel where he / she can upload files to his / her website. I run this on my own web server (http://hostoff.kicks-ass.org/), and I would like to offer free hosting. Can anyone please give me step – by – step instructions on how to add a new server, a new subdomain and a new package, and how can users edit their website, or even upload files, or is that an extra addon?

I know that to set up a server, I need to have a cPanel / WHM username & acces key and I have no Idea on how to install WHM, and where to get it, or even use it.

Can anyone please link to a detailed tutorial, or explain in detail here?

Thanks.

PS: I have got absolutely no money left to spend, so free stuff is all i can use right now.
PSS: The website of the hosting tool is http://www.thehostingtool.com/
Forgot to mention, i’m using Windows Vista

A cpanel website hosting question:

I’m using host gator as the site host and they use cpanel. I’ve already registered the domain name. It’s for a non profit organization and until we get it up and running, having someone do it for us isn’t an option. I need to know how to actually make the pages easily and publish them to the site. Thanks for any and all help.

FAQ|Cpanel Website Hosting

A cpanel website hosting question:

I have looked at other answers that say research Java, html etc. please do not reply with this. I want to know: IF I was going to make a website for someone else how would I approach it: For example *bob* wants me to make a website, I know I can easily create just what he wants and more using tools like wordpress. How do I go about replying to him wanting me to make one? -What is the first step? -I can make the website but what do I do about the hosting and domain name?

-How do * I * create a website for *bob* when he knows the host and domain for his rubbish current website After I make the website how to I ‘give this back to him’ and how will I be tied to the site if it all crashes and burns? I have so many questions that I just cant answer – I dont want to spend money on books or courses, just please presume I know how to make a website (in the wordpress design view part of it), (which I do).

Where do I start when *bob* says to me for example ‘make me a website instead of my current one’. This is the audience i will market and and will offer my web design skills to local or small businesses that would be prepared to pay £100 and over for a professional looking site. What I think I am getting confused on is the directory of a website, where are these files placed (the ones that are loaded when someone types ‘example.com’, are they held by the host? how will i edit these files, I know you can do it by cpanel (used by alot of hosts). but I dont know how *I* will edit *his* website , especially if he has used something else to make his first one. Remember I will be working for someone without a website for a very basic starting one that I will re make with professional look.

Are the root folder and files placed on my PC when I edit them (i dont think they are, I think you just upload to them from your PC to host) which means all I need is acess to his domain to make new website? But is that what I ask for when someone needs a website?I litterally say give me access to your account, that just sounds like a scam. As I write this I am already getting more sense of what to do.

The Domain (bought from somewhere) has passwords/user setup to edit and upload to ‘example.com’ Your domain is hosted (by server?), do you you put in this user/pass to access cpanel on the host website or the domain site you bought it from? www.example.com/cpanel to access? You can then edit using wordpress and save? Do I then say to client ‘im done’ or do I do my work offline, check he likes then upload. How do check it is what he wants without removing all his work permanently. Is the main site controlled by ‘root’ folder and you can place files in and out of this? So I can save all to memory stick and switch and swap whatever I like?

What do I do if the business does not have a website or domain, i can offer them this inclusive in price but if they decide they do not want at the end i am stuck after buying a domain name and a year hosting fees etc. how to I make the site without buying host or domain so I can see they like, they buy then I reccommend the host and where to buy domain, then I upload for them. Please just explain what I do for *bob* in order to get his new or completly updated site up and running without buying a domain or host (until I know he wants site and pays) then I can tell him where to get his domain name and host.

Also how I work on his already running site (if he already has domain and host), and how this would affect his site if I made his new site in wordpress and his old site was made in something else. Basically how do I make a new site (just copy and paste text from old to new) if he already has one, is it as simple as back up old one and start making new one? Also an extra simple question, how much do i charge for a simple text website with some links, maybe a few extra features like comment section, email connection? £100? £200? bearing in mind i could probably make a fully working site in 2 days if not less so long as information is already on old one and all i need to do is copy and paste text in. Thank you in advance I am very confused on all this!!!

A cpanel website hosting question:

Great Success !
Apache is working on your cPanel® and WHM™ Server
If you can see this page, then the people who manage this server have installed cPanel and WebHost Manager (WHM) which use the Apache Web server software and the Apache Interface to OpenSSL (mod_ssl) successfully. They now have to add content to this directory and replace this placeholder page, or else point the server at their real content.

ATTENTION!
If you are seeing this page instead of the site you expected, please contact the administrator of the site involved. (Try sending an email to <webmaster@domain>.) Although this site is running cPanel, WebHost Manager, and Apache software it almost certainly has no other connection to cPanel Inc. or the Apache Group.
